DEAR CUSTOMERS,
Thank you
and congratulations on purchasing your new ACCU-JOGGER. Please read the
instructions for use completely before starting. By doing so, you will avoid errors
and the need for repair.
!! IMPORTANT SAFETY INDICATIONS !!
a) The
ACCU-JOGGER must only be used for the purpose described in these usage
instructions!
b) Suitable only for rechargeable lead accumulators
(maintenance-free as well)!
c) Not for
operation in frost conditions or where there is danger of frost, as this can
lead to the formation of condensation!
d) Look
after the device, keep away form oils, greases, dyes, solutions, water and all
items that could get into the casing ventilation!
e) Do not
block the casing ventilation with cloths, cartons, etc!
f) In the
event of visible damage, e.g. smoke, faulty cabling, infiltration by liquids or
other substances (see d), immediately detach all supply lines and send the device to your specialist dealer!
g) Always
store the device in a dry place in its original packaging!
h) Risk of
accumulator acid! / Risk of short-circuit / Risk of
reverse polarity!
The safety
indications of the manufacturer concerned must be closely observed when working
with the lead accumulator. In the event of accumulator acid coming into contact
with the skin, in particular with the eyes, rinse immediately with clean water
and consult a doctor.
i) Connect
only one (1) ACCU-JOGGER to each one (1) intact lead accumulator, which must be
subjected to an inspection for defects beforehand!
j) Always
disconnect the device from the lead accumulator prior to starting the engine!
k) Never
connect the device to the lead accumulator of a running engine!
l) Risk of
electric shock from opening the ACCU-JOGGER: DO NOT
open the unit, keep away from children!
1. INTENDED USE OF THE ACCU-JOGGER
a)
Voltage maintenance for rechargeable 6 volt and/or 12 volt lead accumulators
(maintenance-free as well).
b)
Charging of rechargeable 6 volt and/or 12 volt lead accumulators
(maintenance-free as well).
2. MODE OF OPERATION OF THE ACCU-JOGGER
The
ACCU-JOGGER charges the lead accumulator with a constant
current up to the maximum permissible cell voltage. Detachment of the
inspection plug is not necessary. On reaching the cell voltage, the
ACCU-JOGGER switches over from “CHARGE” to “DISCHARGE”, as a result of which
the lead accumulator is now actively discharged. The current drawn here
corresponds to the energy consumption of a small light bulb. At a defined changeover
point, the charge process begins once again, i.e. the device switches over from
“DISCHARGE” to “LOAD”. In this way, the lead accumulator is never overcharged
or totally discharged. The charge status of the accumulator is constantly
monitored electronically.
The engine
remains always ready-to-run even at the end of the discharge phase.
3. INSPECTING THE LEAD ACCUMULATOR BEFORE
INITIATING THE ACCU-JOGGER
The lead
accumulator must be intact. This you can test as follows:
a) The
voltage of the lead accumulator must amount to at least 4V in the case of 6
Volt accumulators and 8V in the case of 12 Volt accumulators.
b) The acid
density should have a value greater than 1.20g/cm3.
c) The
filling amount of the lead accumulator must be correct, if necessary fill up
with distilled water.
Accumulator
acid is highly corrosive - do not allow contact with skin or clothing!
4. CONNECTING AND INITIATING THE ACCU-JOGGER
a) Switch
off all other consumers of current, such as radio, alarm system, telephone or
alternatively remove the lead accumulator. In doing so the safety indications
provided by the vehicle and battery manufacturers must be observed.
b) Connect
the plug supply unit of the ACCU-JOGGER to a 230V socket. Establish beyond
doubt that the socket is actually carrying a constant current.
c) Connect
the ACCU-JOGGER to the lead accumulator. Attach the red clip to the positive
pole (+), and the black clip to the negative pole (-). NEVER mix up the
connections, not even on a test basis.
d) Do not
wrap up the ACCU-JOGGER in cloths or carton etc during operation. Air must be
able to circulate freely around the casing opening.
5. THE ACCU-JOGGER IN NORMAL
OPERATION
The device
starts the cyclical charge and discharge process automatically. Depending on
the charge status of the accumulator, the ACCU-JOGGER begins here either to
charge or to discharge. A complete charge/discharge cycle can take a few
minutes in the case of small batteries, or several days in the case of large
batteries. Charge and discharge times can vary.
If the lead
accumulator is discharged, then the ACCU-JOGGER
quickly switches initially from “CHARGE” to “DISCHARGE”. This cycle extends,
until finally the green LED indicates a constant charge phase, which can
continue for several days.
If the cycle does not become longer, then the battery no longer has sufficient capacity and must soon be replaced.
Important:
check the acid level of the lead accumulator every 8-12 weeks.
Troubleshooting
indication: if, when
the device is connected, the charge/discharge cycle still does not begin,
please check the following points:
a) Does the
socket carry a current?
b) Is the
lead accumulator defective or totally discharged? (See 3.)
c) Is the
ACCU-JOGGER reverse-connected? (Correct: RED=PLUS, BLACK=MINUS).
6. FINISHING THE CHARGE OPERATION
a)
Detach
the connection clips of the ACCU-JOGGERS from the lead accumulator.
b)
Withdraw
the plug supply unit from the socket.
c)
Check
the acid level of the lead accumulator and, if necessary, fill up with
distilled water.
d)
If
necessary, install and connect the lead accumulator in the vehicle again. The
safety indications provided by the vehicle and battery manufacturers must be
observed in the process.
e)
Store
the device in its original packaging in a clean and dry location.
